CAMEO

This training presentation will cover an overview of CAMEO® (Computer-Aided Management of Emergency Operations), including the new upgraded version of CAMEOfm 1.1.3, the new upgraded version of MARPLOT 3.3.2, and the new upgraded version of ALOHA 5.4. CAMEO ® is a system of software applications used widely to plan for and respond to chemical emergencies. It is one of the tools developed by EPA's Chemical Emergency Preparedness and Prevention Office (CEPPO) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Office of Response and Restoration (NOAA), to assist front-line chemical emergency planners and responders. They can use CAMEO to access, store, and evaluate information critical for developing emergency plans. In addition, CAMEO supports regulatory compliance by helping users meet the chemical inventory reporting requirements of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA, also known as SARA Title III). CAMEO also can be used with a separate software application called LandView ® to display EPA environmental databases and demographic/economic information to support analysis of environmental justice issues.

The CAMEO system integrates a chemical database and a method to manage the data, an air dispersion model, and a mapping capability. All modules work interactively to share and display critical information in a timely fashion. The CAMEO system is available in Macintosh and Windows formats. The information presented will include a background of CAMEO, MARPLOT, ALOHA, and LANDVIEW along with hands on exercises covering the CAMEO Suite Software programs pertaining to the chemical library, chemical reactivity, screening & scenarios, hazard analyses, and vulnerability zones. Attendees should leave this course with an understanding on how to use the CAMEO Suite Software as a tool in Emergency Response Planning and the preparation of Off Site Facility Plans, a requirement of EPCRA for EHS facilities.

The CAMEO class has no pre-requisites. Students must bring a lap top/toughbook with the most recent version of CAMEO installed. The newest version of CAMEO can be found at: www.epa.gov/oem/content/cameo/request.htm

Please note: Applications for courses will be accepted up to 1 day prior to the course date.
