Radiologic Technologist Accreditation Q: How many Continuing Education hours do I have? A: As of February 2004, the Agency is no longer maintaining the continuing education (CE) database for technologists. Each individual is responsible for acquiring and maintaining appropriate documentation of participation in CE activities. Historical records of CE can be viewed online (you will need a pin # previously provided), or a printout can be provided by mail. Please call us at 217-785-9894 for assistance. Q: When does one’s accreditation expire? A: The expiration date is printed on the accreditation certificate and wallet card, or can be verified online under the Directory of Radiologic Technologists. Q: Can I pay or renew my accreditation on the Internet with a credit card? A: The Agency does not presently provide on-line renewal or credit card payment options. However, we now offer an expedited application process, via fax, upon receipt of a completed application and debit authorization form (direct debit from checking account). Information regarding the expedited application process is available on-line under the certification link. Q: How long will it take to get my accreditation? A: Most applications are processed, and the accreditation certificate mailed within two weeks of receipt. However, upon request, an immediate authorization to work can be issued upon receipt of a completed application and accompanying fee. When requesting an immediate work authorization, please provide a fax number and contact person. Q: Can John Doe work tomorrow? A: Only if he is accredited, or has an application pending, in which case an authorization to work letter (for 10 days) can be issued via fax to the employer. Q: What do I need to do to change my name/address with you? A: Please call 217-785-9894 and provide the new information. Q: What are the requirements to be accredited? A: Requirements for accreditation are listed in the regulations, Part 401, which may be viewed or downloaded from our website. Q: I’m moving out of state. What should I do regarding my status with DNS? A: Technologists who receive a renewal notice that are no longer working in radiologic technology, or are not employed in Illinois, may choose not to renew their accreditations. If so, no notification is required, nor does one need to return the renewal application. To re-instate an expired accreditation simply complete the application and return it with the appropriate fee. Q: What should I do if I’m short Continuing Education (CE) points and my accreditation is about to expire? A: On the renewal application, for the CE attestation statement, indicate that you do not have the required hours of continuing education, at which point the Agency will grant a 90-day extension. Q: Do I need to be accredited by the Agency if I am only doing MRI, bone densitometry or ultrasound? A: No. Q: Must I keep my ARRT or NMTCB registry up-to-date in order to renew my Illinois license? A: No, it is not required for renewal. However, it may be a condition of employment.
